The Solar Light Company Goes To Green Man
We’ve now camped at the Green Man Festival in the Brecon Beacons for the past two years. The company was great, the music was brilliant, the food was delicious, and some of the late night comedy had us in stitches. We just love this festival. As we all know, camping has its own rewards; waking up early to the birds singing and the smell of cooked food and coffee is one of the joys of festival camping for me. And because we stock a lot of kit we use these opportunities to test out the latest lights and products.
SunJack 8000mAh powerbank
We chose the SunJack, for it’s quality and delivery. It doesn’t have the highest of capacity in the world but it did allow us to charge up our mobiles about four times, easily enough for four days off grid.
It looks like a bulb with an inline on/off rocker switch. The cable, over 2m long, has a USB plug that can be attached to a power bank. This gave us a bright light that certainly lit up our 3-man tent easily. It uses about 1000mAh per hour, so we know we can use it for about 7-8 hours before our power bank runs out. Enough for four nights for us. For you it might not be. However we hate running out of juice anyway so we take along a second power bank to light up the tents at night. If you had a larger powerbank (like our brand new 20,000mAh Choetech) you’d be good-to-go as they say.
UVPaqlite GloStick and the UVPaqlite Medium
We also took two reusable glow-in- the-dark products. The Glostick was charged with a torch for a minute, and then we tied it to the zip of our tent so we could find it in the dark. With this, we don’t need to wake others up when going to the loo! After about a minutes charge, the UVPaqlite Medium glowed all night, so we could easily find our valuables, which were placed on top of it away from our pillows as it starts off quite bright.
Hybridlight 40 Solar Emergency Torch
This was our walking torch used every night to help us find out tent a little more easily. It puts out 40 lumens, so enough to see your way in the dark. It’s only 19cm long and only weighs 113g so easily carried around. We left this one hanging on the tent each day, charging up in the cloudy conditions with occasional sun. It has a lanyard attached to help with this. And it’s waterproof so it can stay out in the rain for ages!
Our Backup - LuciEMRG Solar Light
Last year, we took the Luci as a backup. It lasts for hours and it can be charged by the sun via it's built in solar panel. If you wish to charge it while walking, just deflate it and attach to your backpack - it's also waterproof! I used it for reading at bedtime as it sits on the ground nicely and doesn’t blind you.
So that’s it really. It all worked for us, how about you? Let us know what power or lighting essentials you take to festivals or camping. We'll be reporting back later in the year on our adventures with a larger capacity power bank, a torch that puts out 1000 lumens but weighs almost nothing and a portable solar charger to test in real conditions. Now, does anyone have a solar cure for a hangover?!
Last month we had a great time at the Outdoor Trade Show and found loads of exciting new products. Now our new kit has started to filter in (pun intended) it's time to introduce you to our latest finds.
Choetech Power Banks
We've got two great new power banks to keep all your USB gear charged up - lights, phones, speakers etc. Having spent months testing and trialling different brands the Choetech chargers really stood out with their quality and features.
They come in two sizes, the 10400mHa charger and the larger 20000mHa power bank. Key features include...
- micro USB and lightning recharging ports
- Qualcomm Quick Charge 3 technology
- Samsung/LG batteries
- dual USB charging outputs (one QC 3, one regular)
The smaller model weighs just 250g while the 20000mHa version comes in at just over 360g.
These really are great chargers, we hope you agree!
The Grayl Ultralight Water Purifier
Full-spectrum purification and filtration with one press - the Ultralight offers the ultimate protection against pathogens (viruses, bacteria, protozoa), particulates, chemicals and heavy metals.
In scientific terms this means it removes 99.9999% of viruses (e.g. Rotavirus, Hepatitis A), 99.9999% of bacteria (e.g. E coli, Salmonella), and 99.999% of protozoan cysts (e.g. Giardia, Cryptosporidium).
Each use is remarkably fast and easy and only takes about 15 seconds. The Ultralight does NOT require batteries, UV bulbs, chemicals, pumping, sucking, squeezing or prolonged waiting. Each replaceable purifier cartridges has a lifespan of 300 uses (40 gal/150 L).
It's available in four great colours and is in stock right now!
